HEAD TO HEAD OF THE MONTH:
[3 way: Ghost Ship, Darkness Falls, the Ring]
Ratings: Ghost Ship-4, Darkness Falls 3.5, The Ring-4
I thought they were all alright as the ratings depict, but when compared head to head (where ratings done matter) there is a definate winner.
GHOST SHIP I thought was great but the ending and climax scenes (though a good half-twist) was a little disappointing. I absolutely loved the opening scene and I thought it made the movie. The main movie was good, but the ending lacked some action and scariness i thought. It was pretty gory though Ive seen far worse)and it seemed to ahve just the right ammount. it had some interesting ideas, and the actign wasn't the worst Ive seen-but some parts lacked character. Overall loved it.
THE RING was terrific. The only thing missing from this was- nothing really! It could have had some more action I suppose, but it was a pure horror film, that didn't need any extra action. Great film, one of the best of the year.
DARKNESS FALLS was a joke. Yes it was a great night out, and it wasn't like it didnt have its frightening moments, but at about half way it started heading down hill with every anonomous character or person the audience could care less about dying, and ofcourse the main characters remaining unharmed. It really began to drag on, and overall I thought that it was the best idea of the 3, the script really made it suck. The script was great up until all the lights go out. Thats when it begins to drag, Still a must see, and a real laugh (the last line: I see you b*tch!) but certainly not the best of the 3.
Obviously nothing beats the Ring as you can tell. as for Ghost Ship- lacked some seriousness, scariness and a climax. Darkness Falls lacked content, and logical thinking. But I recommend still watching them all- even though you'll lose hours of sleep in the process!
RACK'S SAY
I actually haven't seen these movies yet, but i still want to disagree with Karl. Ghost Ship sucked, The Ring sucked, and Darkness Falls was great.
THE HULK SMASHES IT'S WAY TO A 5/5
This movie was brilliant. It's Godzilla meets Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde, Bruce Banner being the tortured dr Jekyll and the raging Hulk being the ruthless Mr.Hyde. This was one of the best jobs of bringing a comic book character to life in a movie.
The movie has two very important sides to it, I'll call them the action and the tragedy.
The action in this movie is like nothing ever seen before, and it will most likely stay that way for some time. The Hulk is chased all around and there are action scenes in many different scenes.
The tragedy is that Bruce Banner cannot control this beast inside of him, and because of it his life is threatened by the military. They cannot find a cure and want to sedate for the rest of his life. As the viewer of the movie, you feel sorry for Bruce Banner and even understand his actions but at the same time understand why others want him to stay the f*** away.
I also liked how they added the comic-book feel by adding multiple frames that are often moving(if you don't know what i mean, kind of like two camera angles at once). They did a great job of stickin to the dialogue of the comic books at times, but also knew when to shift the plot (again if you're confused, use for example how in the shows and comicbook, spiderman created a device to shoot web, but in the movie he does it himself).
Every little detail brings this movie to life. To put simply, the Hulk SMASHED!!!
XMEN 2:
Karl-Great movie BUT it was a little monotone, where was the high adrenaline energy the first movie had? Almsost invisible in this sequel. But this really develops the story and sets it up perfect for the ultimate chapter in the saga, part three. The only other things I have to say are Beast wasn't in it, that sucked, and Nightcrawler is great!I give it a 4/5.
Rack-I don't know what Karl is talking about with "high adrenaline energy". X2 had everything it needed. the action didn't need anything it was great. Also, the storyline was fluent, and Hugh Jackman is a great wolverine. It was surely better than the first xmen movie. I have one tiny problem though. It great and all that they showed Colossus in this movie, but the graphics for his metal body must've been the toughest job of the movie to get done immaculately (little exaggeration, but you know what i mean). Now everyone wants to see more of Colossus, so how are they gonna keep it up? And by the way, Karl, there was a hint in there of Beast. In the bar scene with Mystique, there's a television that says Hank Mccoy at the bottom, a.k.a. Beast. And I'd like to add myself that there was a hint of Gambit. In the part where Mystique snuck in the place morphed as Deathstrike, She typed in Magneto's name in the computer to find out where he is. I forget Magneto's last name but it starts with an L, and just above his name was Remy Labeau, aka Gambit. Anyway, I give X2 a 4.5/5
ANGER MANAGEMENT:
Karl-Im being nice, this was no near as good as I had thought it would be, the plot is complete crap, and though it had its moments and Nicholson was amazing, it just didnt have enough in the plot to get it done. I give it a 2/5.
Rack-I agree with Karl on this one, but i ain't gonna be "nice". It was arguably the worst movie of the year. the storyline is stupid. you can't make heads or tails of it. I mean, I could stand in front of a camera and do a hippy dance to yellow submarine in the nude for one hour and 45 minutes, and that would be better than this movie. I give it a 1/5 outta pity.
THE TUXEDO
Karl-I probably won;t see this one, doesn;t catch my interest
Rack-The tuxedo, starring Jackie Chan, wasn't the best of his career. The action just wasn't the same, since Chan didn't have as much kung-fu fights, and the storyline had a few loopholes. Jennifer Love Hewitt co-starred and was great and so was Chan, but putting that aside, the movie just didn't do it for me. I give it a 2.5/5.
BRUCE ALMIGHTY
Karl- 2/5
It was alright, but there is better things you waste your money on than this. I dont recommend seeing it, because it didnt make me laugh enough, even though there were "morals", but come on who cares about morals anyway?
Rack- 3.5/5
Now, I know I disagree with Karl a lot, but I don't know wut Karl is talkin about here. Sure you can always spend your money on something else but this sure wasn't a waste. I recomend seeing it. Jim Carey and Morgan Freeman were great, Jennifer Aniston was good, but where I'm cutting off points is at the stupid homeless guy that always pops up holding a sign that has every word spelt wrong and it has nothing to do with the movie, and a few loopholes I found. But all and all, great flick.
THE MATRIX: RELOADED
Karl-Graphics are perfection with the exception of when Trinity is falling, great graphics on her and Smith but the buldings and street couldn't look more compuer generated. Keanu Reeves has got to be the worst actor I've ever seen-but his absolute crap acting still isn't as bad as the punks in the Lizzie McGuire show, my god they are annoying, and it's perfect for Neo. (However if this guy was in any other movie I'd puke while watching it). Don't get me wrong every actors' acting was great overall (Especially Lawrence Fishburne). the story was very complex but incredible none the less. Thumbs up to the Wachowski brothers! The action, though it dragged on time and time again, was entertainment at it's best. Overall great movie, a must see, get's a Special K point but not a 5, sry this is a 4.5/5, mwuahahaha, don't you just hate me?
Rack- First I'd like to say, that isn't Smith fighting Trinity, Karl, It's just an agent. Anyway, the graphics were breathtaking, the action was incredible, and that chicken looks tasty. Oh, sorry, I was watching a Maple Leaf Prime commercial. Anyway, I can't complain about anything in this movie. It was flawless. 5/5.
DAREDEVIL
Karl- I give it 4.5/5. For what they had to work with this movie rocked! It surprised me alot, and had some great action and effects. Totally leaves room for a sequel too. I think this is the 2nd best Marvel Movie yet, X-Men 1 still has a 5/5 rating. Maybe the Hulk can grab the 1st or 2nd spot.
Rack- I haven't yet seen this, but I sure want to. It looks like an amazing movie.
MOVIES ON VIDEO
WHITE OLEANDER
Karl- It was pretty good, much better than I thought, I recommend watching it. (Even though it is sick and twisted). Believe me I dont give out 4/5s everyday.
Rack- Haven't seen it and I don't plan to. Doesn't catch my interest.
NATIONAL SECURITY
Rack-haven't seen it, don't think I've even heard of it.
Karl- HUGE dissapointment. It was alright but wow- not really funny. 1.5/5.
DUMB AND DUMBER
Rack-I know this is an old movie, but it HAS to be mentioned. there's only four words that can describe it: LMAO! Even the parts meant to be just a little humourous are hilarious. One of my top ten. 5/5 without a doubt.

THE HULK
Rack- I cannot wait for this movie to come out. Just look at those previews! The action will be like nothing ever seen before, and the graphics are flawless from what is seen in the previews. I predict a 5/5 on this movie
Karl-In my opinion it's the 2nd most anticipated movie of the summer (1st going to Matrix 2), can hardly wait like when you really got to go to the bathroom but someones in there. Graphics looked amazing on the trailers, but I have hard time seeing it as a 5 like Rack, so im going with a 4/5.
2 FAST 2 FURIOUS
Rack- I know it's out already, but I think this is probably one pathetic movie. The flick lost the main character, and never even HAD a good dialogue. I mean, all it looks like is a car infomercial-bad acting and showing the thing same over and over again for an hour. I predict a 1.5/5 on this movie, IF I go see it.
Karl-No Vin Diesel. No relatively new concepts. No chance. 1.5/5 Prediction could surprise me though.
BAD BOYS 2
Rack- I haven't seen the first movie yet, but seeing the previews, this flick doesn't look like it'll be that bad. I'm thinking a 3/5 for this one.
Karl- This looks great-Im not sure that it will be that funny though, but the scene with the huge car smash-up looked great, and with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence you can't go wrong. 3.5/5 Prediction.
TERMINATOR 3
Rack- This is the exact same movie as T2, except it's a girl robot badguy instead of a guy. I mean, c'mon, he's sent back to the past (again) to protect a person (again) from another robot (again) also sent to the past (again), and The good robot is a worse design than the bad robot. Again. Coincidence? I just think they couldn't think of another movie, so they redid the same one, giving it a different name. I'm predicting a 2/5, only because T2 was a good movie.
Karl- I know Rack has a mouthful to say about how bad this looks but putting that fact that the story is pretty much a copy of the 2nd terminator, but I think it looks really good, great sepecial effects, and action. Plus its got Arnold! I predict a 4/5 rating.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBEAN
Rack- There hasn't been a movie like this out for a while. About time they have ghosts and pirates in one flick. I'm predicting 3.5/5
Karl- I really like the look of this one! Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, great actors, great concept, most likely great special effects and action, and any movie that doesn;t give much away has always to me proven to be a classic. Don't ask why but Ive never seen a bad movie that had a low-profile preview. 5/5 Prediction.
LEAGUE OF EXTROARDINARY GENTLEMAN
Rack- Great idea for a movie. They have an amazing group of goodguys: A vampire, The invisible man, Tom Sawyer, Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde. It sounds like the movie of the summer. 5/5.
Karl- After Rack explained the concept of this to me it changed my opinion of this movie, looks not too bad. 3/5 Prediction.
DUMB AND DUMBERER
Rack- A lot people may disagree with me, but this looks terrible, ridiculous, and a disgrace to the first movie. The jokes shown in the previews are lame and pathetic, and usually previews a movie shows a good scene in the preview. Now, if those are good scenes, I'd hate to see the bad ones. It REALLY doesn't do it for me. 2/5 prediction just because I LOVE the 1st Dumb and Dumber.
Karl-
F-ZERO RACING (GC)
Rack- I'm really can't wait to play this game. It's probably gonna be one of the fastest racing games, making it challenging, exhilarating and fun. I'm predicting 4/5.
Karl- Can't wait. Predict a 3.5/5 Rating.
MARIO KART 2 (GC)
Rack- I'm a little iffy about this. The new two players on one cart is a great idea, but I don't know if I like it yet. Just to be safe, I'm not giving a prediction, cause I have no idea.
Karl- It just gets sweeter. I predict a 4.5/5 Rating.
WARIO LAND (GC)
Rack- Wario? On GC? Well, what took them so long? Everybody loves Wario. The tiny problem I have is the gameboy games weren't so great, but GC is a totally different console, so I'm predicting a 3/5.
Karl- Well its about time! I love Wario and I hope this game fulfills every inch and even more of my 3.5/5 prediction.
MARIO PARTY 5
Rack- These games keep getting worse and worse. They should've quit while they were ahead with the first one. I'm not expecting anything from this game, 1.5/5.
Karl-
LIMP BIZKITS NEW CD
Rack- They lost Wes! The only guy I liked! I don't think they'll make a come-back after losing they're freak-on-a-leash talented guitar player. But they are good nevertheless. I'll say 3/5, which is generous.
Karl- I lost faith in these guys a bit when Wes left, but, it should still be interesting. I predict a 4/5 rating.
BLINK 182's NEW CD:
Rack- I think they're done. 2/5 prediction.
Karl- Should be flawless. 5/5 Prediction.

LINKIN PARK-METEORA

One thing I've recently learned about CDs is that you have to listen to them about 5 times to feel get the feel of it. Linkin Park's Meteora is a perfect example. At first, I thought it was too boring and dull. But now, man I'm hooked. Of course it ain't better the amazing Hybrid Theory, but there are some fantastic songs on the cd, like Somewhere I Belong, Nobody's Listening, Numb, Don't Stay, and Easier to Run. It clearly deserves the 4/5.
Anyway, Big Shiny Tunes 7 is a great cd that I recomend for anyone. It has a great mix of artists a great mix of rock and punk. I give the C.D. 4/5.
A band called Noise Disaster was at the battle of the bands whom jules, jake, paul, karl and i attended. When they started playing, all five of us were blown away. They maybe unheard now, but I wouldn't be surprised and they get a little bigger.
I have a prediction that the next cd The White Stripes send out will be great. Seven Nations Army is a great song, terrific bassline. I think there'll be a lot of songs that good on the cd. That's it for my music section. Back to you Karl.

Obviously it couldn't match the explosiveness or energy of Hybrid Theory, but this is still and excellent CD, I recommend it, and it has some great songs like Figure 9., Somewhere I Belong, Nobodys Listening, and Hit the Floor just to name a few. The first 11 songs are great in my opinion, the djs song is alright, and the last song is average, as is one other too. Recommend buying, or at least downloading as it its good LP tracks and they also try many new things. (I also give it a Special K point).br>
My favourite non widely known band Jimmie's Chicken Shack releases a new cd sometime soon called Anonymous. I am psyched, and if you havent heard any of their stuff, download my friends!
As for favourites, I'd just like to say Linkin Park-Hybrid Theory is amazing, every track is phenomenal. 5/5 stars. As is Pushing the Samanilla Enevelope by Jimmie's Chicken Shack. 5/5 Stars.
Anyone heard of Jimmie's Chicken Shack? You have to check them out, they are a good and, and still not my favourite, but good none the less. If your downloading i suggest you try...High, Lazy Boy Dash, Hole, What Do I Do Right?, Spiraling, Slow Change, Smiling, Ooh, Dropping Anchor, and oh I could go on and on cuz theres plenty more, start with those though!
Speaking of other unheard of bands, Noise Disaster and 12 Stones, awesome!
My applause to the following bands who are slowing down after having extremely successful careers, that have changed the face of music 4ever...Metallica and Rage Against the Machine, if you havent heard a song from them, where have you been? Download a few I suggest... for Metallica, try downloading I Dissapear, Enter Sandman, King Nothing, Sad But True, No Leaf Clover, Unforgiven, Whiskey in the Jar. For RATM, Bombtrack, Wake Up, Killing in the Name of, Sleep Now in the Fire, Renegades of Funk, and Mic Check. Those are all personal favourites, but believe me all their songs are great!

-Metroid Prime (GC) is a great game for graphics and has a good story behind it. It's one of the few great games that is in first person play.
-StarFox Adventures (GC) is the first Star Fox game that has Fox out of the cockpit of his Arwing. The game is very straight forward, almost simple, but still challenging parts to it. it's a great game with good graphics and a good dialogue.
-But the best game for any console in my opinion HAS to be Super Smash Brothers Melee for GameCube. Your favourite Nintendo Characters including Donkey Kong, Samus, Link, Kirby, and the Mario Brothers beating the crap out of each other in either a free-for-all smash-fest, a team battle slug-fest, or a one-on-one showdown with some of the best fighting action I've ever seen.

NBA 2K3 (GC, XBOX, PS2) is a ballers dream come true! I am obsessed about this game, and its my new favourite, and I could go on and on... You can really do it all in this, controllers fairly easy, coaching options ahve lots of options, but the mechanics of it could use work, but what is so good about it is how realistic it is. Franchise mode is phenomenal! You can aslo modify players skill if you are unhappy with it ex. you think Vince is a better three point shooter than the game is you can make him better! Its great, addicting, and its a must have if you love your ball like me...uh basketball that is. 5/5 Stars and a huge special K point for excellence!
METROID: PRIME (GC) is the game I have become addicted to over the holidays. Great graphics, and sound and all, but the best part is...I dunno. That's whats so amazing about it, It's so good you just don't know what's good about it. Either that or it's part of some conspiracy to make us all brainless zombies. The main plot involves Samus a female human raised by the Chozo from Planet Zebes on a mission to find out just what her arch nemisis Ridley and the Space Pirates are up to on Tallon IV. Tallon IV was once a paradise for the Chozo but a huge meteor crashed into the planet mutating the soils and turning the waters to poison. The planet ahs high radiation levels that the Space Pirates are using to create the universe's most incredibly strong creatures. As the story goes along Samus becomes more involved with the Chozo's story and finds that there is muc more happening behind the scenes than she could have ever imagined. I can't completely rate this game yet since I am still a long way from beating it but so far I give it 4.5/5 stars, but that's unofficial and could change. Despite its 4.5, I still give it a special K point for excellence.
NHL 2K3- Best hockey video game ever! 4.5/5 just because you can;t edit stats and the graphics still leave desire, but overall best hockey video game ever created, you can do just about anything as far as rosters and customizing teams go, plus the gameplay is awesome, its realistic, and there are SO MANY OPTIONS! Also gets a special K point.

X-BOX ANALASYST Jon Butler:
Splinter Cell - Only one word to describe it...Kickass! This game is not your normal shooting game, its full of stealth, evading, and silenced weapons. Splinter Cell is a lot like Metal gear Solid for PS2 (now for xbox also).
In other news, Electronics boutique made 437.6 million dollars this year!
Watch out for the release of a lot of new games such as: Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball :), Halo 2(June), Black Hawk Down(Summer), The Matrix(May), Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Raven Shield(March), Midtown Madness 3(May), etc. (rumored games are GTA 3, Midnight Club 2, and Counter-Strike) You May not care about these games, but screw you.
Hardware coming out for the xbox includes the Logic3 Flightstick Controller, and the Monster SSGS-500 Speaker System (5.1 Dolby in 5 speakers).

Loved it, most wearing I've ever heard in a movie, or it seemed like it, but it was great. Sutherland is great as the caller, and Colin Farrel is just a good actor all around. It may be on the boring side for some people but I loved it. I recommend it!
